The adventure begins by traversing the stunning Andean landscapes of the Southern Valley of Cusco until reaching Challacancha, the starting point of the hike. During this first day, you will also visit the spectacular Humantay lagoon. At the end of the day, you will enjoy a restful night in comfortable mountain cabins.

Day 2: Soraypampa - Abra Salkantay - Cusco

The second day will be dedicated to exploring the stunning surroundings of the Salkantay snow-capped mountain. After a lunch surrounded by mountains, you will begin the journey back to the city of Cusco.

Day 1: Cusco - Soraypampa - Humantay Lake

The experience of the Salkantay and Humantay Lagoon Tour begins with pick-up from your hotel around 4:00 a.m. to travel to the Southern Valley of Cusco. After a scenic stretch of approximately 2 hours, we will arrive at the town of Mollepata, where we will enjoy a buffet breakfast to recharge our energy before continuing our journey.

After a 30-minute journey, you will arrive at Challacancha, the place where the Salkantay trek begins. From the first step, expansive views of Nevado Humantay (19,356 ft) can be seen. The journey takes approximately 2 hours to reach our comfortable domes or cabins (subject to availability) in Soraypampa. In the afternoon, a delicious lunch will be enjoyed here, followed by the ascent to the sacred Humantay Lagoon (4,200 meters above sea level), a magical place where you can take unforgettable photographs alongside the intense turquoise color of its waters.

At night, after dinner, you will be able to gaze at a wonderful starry sky, accompanied by the contrast of the snow-capped mountains surrounding the camp.

The second day of the adventure begins early with a special tea and a nutritious breakfast before starting the hike toward the majestic Nevado Salkantay. The journey lasts approximately 2 to 3 hours, depending on each traveler's physical pace. During the journey, you will also be able to observe various Andean animals, such as alpacas, llamas, deer, vizcachas, and even foxes.

Upon reaching the Salkantay Pass (4,630 meters above sea level), you will be rewarded with a spectacular view of the Andes and the imposing snow-capped peak that dominates the landscape. After a brief rest to take in the surroundings and take souvenir photos, you will return to the camp to enjoy lunch. Finally, at sunset, the return journey to the city of Cusco will begin.

What happens if I am affected by the altitude on the day of the hike to Abra Salkantay?

Our guides are properly trained to assist with any altitude-related situation. Additionally, throughout the entire tour, we have an oxygen tank and a first aid kit.

To better enjoy the experience, we recommend arriving in Cusco at least 2 days before the tour to facilitate proper acclimatization.
