What is the best time of year to make this trip?
The program operates year-round. Between May and September, you will find sunny days and cold nights, with clear skies over the Andes. From November to March, the landscape transforms: intensely green mountains, fewer visitors, and rains that usually concentrate in the afternoon. Each season offers a different experience, and our team will guide you according to your available dates.
Are there set release dates?
No. Since it is a private trip, the departure is scheduled on the date you choose, subject to the availability of hotels, trains, and tickets to Machu Picchu. This allows you to align the trip with your international flights or a particular celebration.
Can I customize the itinerary?
Yes. The program is a starting point, not a closed structure. We can adjust the number of nights per destination, incorporate hotels of your preference, substitute experiences, or modify the pace of the itinerary. Share your interests with us and we will present you with a proposal tailored to your way of traveling.
Is it possible to extend the trip to other destinations in Peru?
Of course. This itinerary naturally combines with the Amazon, Lake Titicaca, the Colca Canyon and Arequipa, the Nazca Lines, or the northern coast. We recommend defining the extensions at the time of booking to ensure the best air connection and the continuity of private service.
What are the booking and payment conditions?
The reservation is confirmed with an initial payment of 50% of the program's value, and the remaining 50% is paid 60 days before the start date. That first payment allows us to immediately manage the tickets to Machu Picchu, the train tickets, and the domestic flights, services with limited availability that sell out months in advance. Securing them early is what ensures that your trip unfolds as planned.
What is the cancelation policy?
We understand that plans can change. The penalty is determined based on how far in advance we receive your written notice: more than 90 days in advance, only the already committed expenses plus US$ 200 per passenger for management fees are retained; between 90 and 61 days, 50% of the program value; between 60 and 31 days, 75%; and within the 30 days prior, 100%.
This scale reflects the commitments we undertake on your behalf from the moment of booking. The tickets to Machu Picchu, train tickets, and domestic flights are personalized services that we issue immediately to secure your spot, and they are non-refundable and non-transferable. For this reason, we request the purchase of cancelation insurance, which allows you to recover these amounts in case of any unforeseen events. Your advisor will review the full terms with you before confirming.
Can I change the date of my trip instead of canceling it?
It is possible to request a date change with more than 90 days' notice, without penalty and subject to availability and the fare difference corresponding to the new dates. Some already issued services may require rescheduling with a fee. Within the 90 days prior, the request is governed by the cancelation scale. Your advisor will evaluate each case, always seeking the best alternative for you.
Can I transfer my reservation to another person?
The services linked to your identity document for entry to Machu Picchu, train tickets, and domestic flights cannot be transferred once issued. Land services can indeed be transferred with more than 60 days' notice. Let us know the situation as soon as possible and we will precisely indicate which components can be retained.
What happens if my international flight is delayed and I miss a service?
Our team will rearrange whatever is possible so you can make the most of the remaining days. However, the services with fixed date and time—tickets to Machu Picchu and train tickets—do not allow rescheduling or refunds. It is precisely the type of contingency that your travel insurance covers, and we will assist you with all the documentation that the insurer requires.
Can I participate in this program if I travel alone?
Yes. The program is available for individual travelers with entirely private service: your own guide, your vehicle, and experiences designed at your pace. The rate is calculated based on double occupancy, so a single room supplement applies, which we will quote according to the selected hotel and date.
Do I need a visa to enter Peru?
Citizens of most countries in the Americas and the European Union do not require a visa for tourist stays. A passport with a minimum validity of six months beyond the return date is required. Since requirements may change, we suggest confirming them with the Peruvian consulate corresponding to your nationality before traveling.
Is any vaccine required?
There is no mandatory vaccine for the destinations on this itinerary. The yellow fever vaccine is only recommended for those extending their trip to the Amazon. If you have any specific medical inquiries, we recommend discussing them with your trusted doctor well in advance.
Why is travel insurance mandatory?
Because it protects a significant investment. A flight delay, an illness, or a family emergency can affect non-refundable services, such as tickets to Machu Picchu or train tickets. The policy must include cancelation coverage, medical assistance, and evacuation, the latter especially valuable in high-altitude areas. We will request the policy number before issuing the services for your trip.
What happens if the altitude affects me during the trip?
Our team is ready to accompany you. The itinerary already minimizes the risk by starting the Andean stay in the Sacred Valley, and the selected hotels offer traditional infusions and oxygen support. In case of any discomfort, your guide will coordinate medical attention immediately and adjust the day's pace according to your well-being.
Can I take this trip if I have a medical condition or reduced mobility?
We invite you to share with us any medical condition, treatment, or mobility limitation at the time of booking. Several sites include stairs and uneven surfaces of Inca origin, but the program allows for adaptations: alternative routes, additional rest times, and substitute experiences designed for you to enjoy the trip with complete peace of mind.
Is it a trip suitable for children?
Yes, and it is one of our favorite proposals for families. The experience in Misminay, the encounter with Andean camelids, and the train ride are usually the most memorable moments for the younger ones. We suggest a minimum age of 8 years due to the altitude, and we can adapt the pace and visits to the family's profile.
Can you accommodate dietary restrictions or allergies?
Yes. Please inform us in advance of any allergies, intolerances, or dietary preferences, whether vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or otherwise, and we will communicate them to each hotel, restaurant, and culinary experience in the program, including the community lunch in Misminay. Peruvian cuisine offers exceptional versatility to accommodate practically any requirement.
In which languages is the guide service offered?
The program includes professional bilingual guides in Spanish and English. Upon prior request and subject to availability, we can arrange guides in French, Portuguese, Italian, German, or Japanese. We recommend indicating this at the time of booking, as these specialized services require prior confirmation.
What is the luggage limit on the train to Machu Picchu?
The train operators allow one handbag or backpack per passenger, with an approximate limit of 8 kg and dimensions set by each service. Your main luggage will be kept safe at the Sacred Valley hotel, so you will only travel with what is necessary for the day.
Can I climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain?
These upgrades require a specific circuit and entry, with very limited spots that are released several months in advance. They are not part of the program, but if you are interested, please indicate it from the beginning so we can try to arrange them. Consider that they add between two and three hours of demanding hiking to the day.
Will I have connectivity during the trip?
All the hotels in the program have Wi-Fi connection, and mobile coverage is good in Lima, Cusco, and the Sacred Valley. The signal becomes intermittent in mountainous areas, in the community of Misminay, and within the Machu Picchu sanctuary. Many travelers discover that this pause is part of the charm.
What currency should I bring and can I pay with a card?
The official currency is the Peruvian sol. International credit cards are accepted without difficulty in hotels, restaurants, and established shops. We recommend carrying some cash in soles for markets, crafts, and tips, especially during community experiences.
Do I need an adapter to charge my devices?
In Peru, the current is 220 volts at 60 hertz, and the outlets accept plugs with two flat pins (type A) and round pins (type C). If you are traveling from Europe or much of South America, your plugs will fit without difficulty; if you are traveling from the United States, check that your devices accept 220 volts, as most modern chargers for phones, cameras, and computers do so automatically. The selected hotels have universal outlets and adapters at the reception, so you can travel without worrying about this detail.
Can I drink water during the tour?
We recommend consuming only bottled or purified water. The program includes water refills from the beginning to the end of the trip, so you will stay hydrated at all times, which is particularly important at high altitudes. It also reduces the use of single-use plastic bottles.

The trip has an easy to moderate level. It is not a trekking program, although it includes cultural walks, archeological visits, and some routes with stairs and uneven surfaces, especially in Ollantaytambo, Machu Picchu, Moray, and Sacsayhuamán.
How is the trip designed to facilitate acclimatization?
The itinerary has been designed so that the adaptation to the Andes is gradual and comfortable. After Lima, we fly to Cusco and continue directly to the Sacred Valley, which is at a lower altitude than Cusco. There, we began the journey in a relaxed manner, combining gastronomy, culture, and landscapes before continuing to Cusco.
What is the maximum altitude of the trip?
The program reaches approximately 3,400 meters above sea level (11,155 feet). The body's response to altitude varies from person to person. We recommend staying hydrated, maintaining a steady pace during the first few days, and following the instructions of our team.

Machu Picchu has different official circuits, designed to distribute visitors and offer various perspectives of the citadel. The availability of each circuit is limited and is assigned at the time of booking the ticket.
Upon confirming your trip, Sakura Expedition will manage the entry to Machu Picchu and request the most suitable option for your experience, always subject to official availability. If Circuit 2 is not available, an alternative will be assigned for the date of your visit.
For this program, we prioritize the circuits that allow you to enjoy the panoramic views and the main archeological sectors, according to official availability.
Important: The Machu Picchu circuit cannot be guaranteed before the ticket has been confirmed. Once the ticket is issued, the assigned circuit becomes part of the reservation and must be respected during the visit.
Is the visit to Machu Picchu private?
Yes. The visit is conducted with a private professional guide for your group, allowing the explanations and the pace of the visit to be tailored to your interests. The guided tour lasts approximately 2 to 3 hours, depending on the assigned circuit and the conditions of the visit.
Which train will we use to get to Machu Picchu?
The program includes superior category tourist train services, carefully selected according to availability. The itinerary includes the route between Ollantaytambo and Aguas Calientes, as well as the return to Ollantaytambo. The final service and schedule will be confirmed at the time of booking.
